About this photograph
We arrived near Juneau with one great Alaskan adventure in mind: riding behind a team of sled dogs across the ice and snow.
The weather had other plans, and the helicopter flight to the dog camp was canceled.
When conditions prevented the dog-sled excursion, we faced a choice—let the disappointment define the day or make the most of the wild country around us. We chose the latter, and Alaska rewarded us with spectacular views across the Juneau Icefield.
Below us, fractured blue ice stretched toward dark, snow-covered mountains. Crevasses, ridges and frozen textures revealed a landscape shaped by centuries of slow, relentless movement. What began as a canceled adventure became an unforgettable encounter with the immense scale and rugged beauty of Alaska.
This photograph is part of the Juneau Icefield in Alaska. Its deep blues, stark mountain slopes and intricate patterns of ancient ice bring a dramatic sense of wilderness to a living room, office, lodge or travel-inspired interior.
